My interesting day!

I started off my morning logging onto my twitter account and sharing with the world around me what my mind was thinking during that particular moment:

“top of the morning world… looking forward to see what the day brings…”

As I sit in silence and meditate on my day and all the events that have taken place thus far I am blown away at the evidence of the Lord’s presence. It would be so easy for me to look back at my day and be frustrated at the series of events that took place. That is not the case in my situation. I can clearly see that the Lord is putting me through a new testing season and I am truly excited to learn and grow through it. It all started yesterday morning in church when my pastor was discussing the importance of tithing and giving offerings to the body. Let’s recap:

Sunday morning I was so blessed by the message that my pastor spoke and it really encouraged me to honestly give with a cheerful heart to the body of Christ. I ran to my car while the ushers were getting the offering bags ready. I knew I had a certain amount of American money in my wallet that I left in my car. I thought of giving an amount I decided in my head as I ran to the car but the closer I got to opening my wallet the more I kept feeling I needed to give every penny in there. I knew how much was in there. I also knew I had to give it all. It’s all His anyways right? So I cleaned my wallet out and gave the Lord’s money back to Him. I can honestly say that I did not give an offering just to see crazy financial blessings return to my wallet (although I have heard endless testimonies of that happening to people around me). I did however expect incredible things because it is the Lord’s promise to bless His children when they are obedient and faithful.

Today is Monday. Today is the day where I wished the world a good morning expecting incredible things to happen. It has been such an intense day. Today has been financially the worst day for me. I wonder what God is teaching me through this test? After giving Him all the money I had in my wallet, financially I continued to suffer the next day. I have first hand experienced God blessing me financially within minutes after pouring my money into the church but not this time. I got more broke. I went to Vancouver today with some friends and when I came back to my car it was gone. After a $62.00 towing bill and a $50.00 parking ticket I was puzzled at how things were turning out. As we walked towards the towing place I saw a homeless man and still offered to buy him food without hesitating. The Lord provided sufficient funds on my debit account for that. Praise God. We got my car back and rushed home because I had to say goodbye to one of my close friends before she left back home to Alberta. I was worried I wasn’t going to make it.
As we were driving back home we saw a man on the side of the street trying to chase after the bus when he fell really hard. From a distance I watched his face as he rubbed his shin. We could tell that his injury was serious so we pulled our car to the side of the road (a no parking zone) and ran across the street to help him. Blood was pouring down his leg, through his pants, onto his shoes and was all over his hands. He could barely walk so me and Ryan put his arm around our shoulders and carried him to a near by clinic. It was in that moment when everything made sense.

My car was towed so that I could be delayed from my schedule.
The delay gave me the chance to talk to Martin the homeless man.
The delay gave me the privilege of buying him a meal of his choice.
By having my car towed I was able to love on Martin and show him that he is valued.

My mind started racing with thoughts from the Lord. He began to show me reasons why things were happening; things that seemed to make absolutely no sense to me.

If my car wasn’t towed I wouldn’t have been on that particular street in that moment to help the elderly man who tripped while chasing the bus.

A new reality was revealed to me today. We don’t always have to understand what is happening around us. We just need to be open and ready to be used whenever He wants to use us and however He wants to use us to enhance His Kingdom. We see that in Jesus’ life when He was on earth. He had no agenda. He would walk in the streets with hundreds surrounding Him and if one man shouted over all the noise He would instantly leave the crowd and heal the one man that was calling on His name. We need to live like that. We cannot be too busy for the people around us. We cannot be so set on our own schedules that we miss opportunities to love and serve. We need to be ready in all situations to help people who are in need (no matter how needy we are). We must always be ready to serve. Ready to encourage. Ready to love those around us.

  1. hi andrew. great music and testimonies last night at cla cafe! by observing and participating during the get-together i was quite encouraged by your love for the poor and needy in this fallen world. i read your blog re this mondays testimony(your mom and kim recommended i read it) and it led me to look further into Gods word re the poor and needy. so,just want to share a few verses from deut 15 with you. v.4: "save when there shall be no poor among you; for the lord shall greatly bless thee in the land which the lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it." v.6: for the lord thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee." v.8: but thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth." v.10: "thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the lord thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto." v.11: "for the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore i command thee, saying, thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land." (kjv) hope these scripures continue to bless you as much as they've blessed me! p.s: thanks for giving to the lord!!! jennifer
